Procedure

4-(3-(t-Butyloxycarbonylamino)-propyloxy)-2-methoxybenzoic acid methyl ester (2.63 g, 7.76 mmol) from Step 2 was dissolved in MeOH (25 mL) and heated with 1N NaOH (15 mL, 15 mmol)) at 50° C. for 18 h. The reaction was cooled to ambient temperature and 5% aqueous citric acid (10 mL) was added. The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (3×75 mL). The combined EtOAc phases were washed with water (2×50 mL) and brine (50 mL), dried (MgSO4), filtered, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 4-(3-(t-butyloxycarbonylamino)propyloxy)-2-methoxybenzoic acid as a white foam (95% yield).
