Reaction Steps

A solution of 15.6 g (73.5 mmol) of (3-aminomethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-ylmethyl)-dipropylamine in 100 ml of methyl formate was heated at reflux for seven hours. Subsequently, the solution was evaporated and the residue was chromatographed (silica gel, methylene chloride/methanol 19:1). There were obtained 14 g (79%) of N-(5-dipropylaminomethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-ylmethyl)-formamide, Rf=0.28 (silica gel, methylene chloride/methanol 19:1).
