17.85 g (56.3 mmol) of 7-bromo-5-methyl-6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4H-imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carbonitrile were stirred with 10.3 g (97.7 mmol) of sodium carbonate and 8 g (115.1 mmol) of hydroxylamine hydrochloride in 300 ml of ethanol and 60 ml of water at 50° for 1 hour and at 75° for 20 minutes. After dilution with 50 ml of water the suspension was suction filtered and the crystals were dried. There were obtained 16.95 g (86%) of 7-bromo-5-methyl-6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4H-imidazo[1,5-a][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carboxamidoxime of m.p. 265°-266°.
