PROCEDURE

To a solution of 2-bromo-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)ethanone (Example 26, Step 2) (0.405 g, 1.09 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) in a 25 mL round bottom flask was added N-ethylthiourea (0.114 g, 1.09 mmol) and the solution was heated to reflux for 14 hours. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and the resulting suspension was concentrated in vacuo, suspended in methylene chloride (100 mL) and washed with NaHCO3 saturated solution (3×10 mL), sodium carbonate solution (10%, 3×20 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The crude product was recrystallized from methylene chloride and isooctane yielding 2-ethylamino-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)thiazole (0.218 g, 53%) as a white powdery crystals: mp 218°-219° C., 1HNMR (DMSO d6) 400 mHz 7.94 (t, 5.38 Hz, 1 H), 7.78 (d, J=8.56 Hz, 2 H), 7.45-7.40 (m, 2 H), 7.37 (d, J=8.56 Hz, 2 H), 7.15 (t, J=9.05 Hz, 2 H), 3.31 (q, J=7.10 Hz, 2 H), 3.18 (s, 3 H), 1.18 (t, J=7.10 Hz, 3 H); MS m/z 377 (M+H). HRMS Δ=0.5 mmu.
