Procedure

2 g (0.053 mol) of O-ethyl S-(2,6-diethoxy-4-pyrimidinylmethyl) S-(n-propyl) dithiophosphate (see Example 2) and 0.3 g (0.0145 mol) of phosphorus pentasulphide in 10 ml of toluene are left at 60° C. for 16 hours. The mixture is then diluted with 50 ml of toluene and the solution is washed once with 0.5N hydrochloric acid and twice with saturated sodium chloride solution. The solvent is subsequently removed by evaporation under reduced pressure and the resulting crude product is purified by chromatography on silica gel with 15% diethyl ether in n-hexane. There is obtained O-ethyl S-(2,6-diethoxy-4-pyrimidinylmethyl) S-(n-propyl) trithiophosphate as a yellow oil, nD23 1.5648.
