Procedure
A mixture of 3-benzoylthiopyridine (8.6 g) and N-(2-bromoethyl)phthalimide (12.2 g) was heated for eight hours at 95°-100° C. and triturated in chloroform (100 ml) for 30 minutes at room temperature. The resulting precipitates were collected by filtration, washed with chloroform and dried to give 1-(2-phthalimidoethyl)-3-benzoylthiopyridinium bromide (8.3 g).
