Combine the product of Step 1 and ethylenediamine (4 ml) in acetonitrile (CH3CN) (15 ml) and stir for 60 hours. Filter the resultant solution and recrystallize from EtOH to obtain N-methyl-N'-aminoethyl-N"-cyanoguanidine (15 g).
