Procedure
475 g (5 mols) of chloroacetic acid are heated at 100° C. with 930 g (10 mols) of aniline in 2 l. of water for 1.5 hours. After the mixture has been cooled, the N-phenylglycine formed is filtered off with suction and washed with water. Yield: 468 g (=62%, relative to the chloroacetic acid).
