Procedure

1.3 g of 1,3-bis[[p-(dimethylamino)benzylidene]amino]-2-isopropylimidazolium hydrogen carbonate are dissolved in 10 ml of methanol and 2 ml of glacial acetic acid are added thereto. After stirring at room temperature for 16 hours, the solution is concentrated and the product is crystallized by the addition of ether. After two-fold recrystallization from methanol/ether, there is obtained 1,3-bis[[p-(dimethylamino)benzylidene]amino]2-isopropylimidazolium acetate of melting point 150°-151°.
