Reaction Steps

The solution of 4-benzhydrylsulfanyl-1-methyl-piperidine (350 mg, 1.18 mmol) and ethyl chloroformate (0.33 mL, 3.54 mmol, 3 eq.) in toluene (15 ml) was refluxed for 5 hrs. The solution was cooled to room temperature and then washed with diluted HCl (2.0 N, 2×5 mL). The solution was dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. The solvent was moved and the crude product 4-benzhydrylsulfanyl-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester was yielded (322 mg, 76.8% yield).
