To a solution of 3-(4-bromo-2,6-dimethylphenoxymethyl)-1-methylpiperidine (531 mg, 1.70 mmol) in toluene (10 mL) was added 3-methoxyphenylboronic acid (319 mg, 2.10 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (58 mg, 0.05 mmol), and 2M sodium carbonate (1.7 mL, 3.4 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 100° C. overnight and cooled to room temperature. The solution was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed twice with water, brine, and dried. The solvent was removed and the residue purified on silica gel, eluting with 5% methanol in dichloromethane containing 0.25% ammonium hydroxide, to give 3-[4-(3-methoxyphenyl)-2,6-dimethylphenoxymethyl]-1-methylpiperidine.
