A mixture of trimethyloxazole (10.18 g, 0.091 M), 4[3-aminopropyl]-1-piperidinecarboxaldehyde and acetic acid (0.16 g) were heated at 145° C. for 6 hrs. After the reaction, the excess of trimethyl oxazole was removed at reduced pressure and the residue was purified on silica gel column eluted with 4 to 10% of methanol by volume in CHCl3 to yield 4-[3-(2,4,5,-trimethyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propyl]-1-piperidinecarboxaldehyde as an oil (3.3 g, 50% yield).
