A mixture solution of 30 g of sodium 2-(2-methoxyethoxy) -5-nitrobenzenesulfonate, 30 g of reduced iron, 0.6 g of ammonium chloride and 60 ml of water was heated at 80° to 85° C. with stirring for 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, the insoluble materials were removed by filtration, 200 ml of isopropyl alcohol was added to the filtrate and the mixture was cooled with ice. The crystals thus precipirated were collected by filtration, washed with 50 m of isopropyl alcohol and air-dried. Yield: 23 g. Melting Point: over 250° C.
