Procedure
To a mixture of 75 parts of chloroform and 100 parts of ice and 15 parts of 4-chloro-2-fluoroaniline, 14.2 parts of thiophosgene were added dropwise over 15 min. After allowing the warm to room temperature and stirring overnight, the phases were separated. The aqueous phase was extracted with 50 parts of chloroform. The organic phases were combined, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated at 300 mm.Hg and 25° to yield 21.3 parts of 4-chlorophenyl-2-fluorophenyl isothiocyanate as a yellow oil with a nD25 of 1.6343.
