Reaction Steps
Methyl (2,5-dichloro-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)acetate (2.08 g.) was added to a solution of 2-aminoimidazoline hydroiodide (3.2 g.) and sodium ethoxide (from 0.35 g. of sodium) in ethanol (10 cm3). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 hr. and the precipitated title product collected by filtration (1.9 g.) m.p. 225°-227° C. The base was suspended in ethanol (25 cm3) and acidified with ethanolic hydrogen chloride to give the hydrochloride of the title compound (1.9 g.) m.p. 225° C.(d).
