Reaction Steps

77% m-Chloroperbenzoic acid (476 mg, 2.12 mmol) was added to a suspension of methyl ester of 2-(2-methylthiopyrimidin-5-yl)benzoxazole-7-carboxylic acid (400 mg, 1.33 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) under ice cooling and the mixture was stirred for 15 min. and then at room temperature for 3 hrs. To the reaction mixture was added dropwise 50% aqueous solution of dimethylamine at room temperature and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was cooled with ice and water (25 ml) was added thereto. The mixture was stirred for 15 min. and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and brine in turn and dried. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (chloroform/ethyl acetate=4) to give methyl ester of 2-(2-dimethylaminopyrimidin-5-yl)benzoxazole-7-carboxylic acid (328 mg, 83%) as colorless crystals.
