Procedure
A solution of p-nitrobenzoyl chloride (4.8 g, 25.7 mmol) in pyridine (50 mL) was added to a solution of 4-amino-3-hydroxypyridine (2.5 g, 22.7 mmol) in pyridine (88 mL) at 10° C. and stirred at room temperature overnight. To the reaction mixture was added Na2CO3 (1.1 g, 10.4 mmol) in water (10 mL) and stirred for 1 hrs. 10% AcOH was added to neutralize the solution. The precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with 10% AcOH and dried to give N-(3-hydroxypyridin-4-yl)-4-nitrobenzamide as a yellow powder (2.27 g, yield: 52%). MS(ESI) calcd. for C12H9N3O4 (m/z): 259, found: 260 [M+H]+.
