Procedure

To a solution containing 1.23 g of product from step 1 (4 mmol) in 20 mL MeOH, was added 0.8 g of Pd (5 wt. % on activated carbon, 0.4 mmol). The resulting suspension was stirred under H2 (50 psi) at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to yield the title compound as a colorless oil (1.10 g, 100%). MS (ES+) m/e 251 [M+H]+.
