Chloroformic acid phenyl ester (310 μl, 2.45 mmole) and pyridine (415 μl, 5.13 mmole) were added to a solution of 2-(5-fluoro-1H-indol-3-yl)-ethylamine (0.5 g, 2.33 mmole) in abs. DCM (10 ml). Stirring was then performed for 24 h at RT. Working up was performed by extracting the batch with water (2×20 ml), with 1M HCl (2×20 ml) and with 1M NaOH (2×20 ml). The organic phase was dried with Na2SO4 and evaporated. [2-(5-Fluoro-1H-indol-3-yl)-ethyl]-carbamic acid phenyl ester was obtained as a colorless solid in a yield of 0.69 g (100%).
