Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Methanol | HCID 887 | — |
| Reactant | Sulfuric Acid | HCID 1118 | — |
| Reactant | (3S)-3-amino-3-phenylpropanoic acid | HCID 686704 | — |
| Product | Methyl (S)-3-amino-3-phenylpropanoate | HCID 788099 | — |
Reaction Steps
2.3 g (11.65 mmol) of (S)-3-amino-3-phenylpropionic acid are introduced in 100 ml of methanol and admixed with a catalytic amount of concentrated sulfuric acid (0.02 eq.). The reaction mixture is heated at reflux for 24 h and then concentrated. The crude product can be used without further purification in the next stage.
