Reaction Steps
This ester (3.2 g) was dissolved in ethanol (15 ml) and 2 N-sodium hydroxide (15 ml) and left at room temperature for 1 hour. The acidic product was isolated by extraction with ether and purified by chromatography on silica gel to give 3-butyl-5-(6-carboxyhexyl)-1-octyl hydantoin as a colourless oil.
