N,N,N′-Trimethylethylenediamine (99, 0.17 mL, 1.308 mmol) was dissolved in 5 mL of dichloromethane and cooled to 0° C. in an ice-water bath. 2-Benzyloxyacetyl chloride (100, 0.2 mL, 1.267 mmol) was added to the above solution dropwise and the mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature. After overnight, the reaction was complete and the mixture was concentrated and used in the next step without purification as HCl salt: 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 2.86 (s, 3H), 2.87 (s, 3H), 3.09 (s, 3H), 3.16 (q, J=5.5, 2H), 3.85 (t, J=6.6, 2H), 4.24 (s, 2H), 4.63 (s, 2H), 7.30-7.39 (m, 5H).
