Procedure
Cobalt (II) chloride (380 mg, 2.9 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-(dimethylamino)-2-(2-(4-fluorophenyl)oxazol-4-yl)butanenitrile (400 mg, 1.46 mmol) in dry methanol (10 mL) at 0° C., followed by sodium borohydride (550 mg, 14.6 mmol) portionwise. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h, then quenched carefully with ice water, and filtered through a Celite bed. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford crude 3-(2-(4-fluorophenyl)oxazol-4-yl)-N1,N1-dimethylbutane-1,4-diamine (180 mg, crude), which was carried through without further purification. MS (ESI) m/z: Calculated for C15H20FN3O: 277.16. found: 278.2 (M+H)+.
