N,N′-Disuccinimidylcarbonate (16.20 g, 63.26 mmol, 1.1 eq) was added at room temperature to a stirred solution of N-(4-aminophenyl)(fluoren-9-ylmethoxy)carboxamide (20.00 g, 60.53 mmol, 1.0 eq) in CH3CN (1100 mL). After stirring overnight at room temperature, the reaction mixture was filtered to afford 28.50 g of the expected crude product as a white powder. 1H-NMR (DMSO-d6): 2.83 (br, 4H); 4.31 (t, J=6.4, 1H); 4.48 (m, 2H); 7.20-7.50 (m, 8H); 7.5 (d, j=7.4, 2H); 7.91 (d, J=7.4, 2H); 9.72 (br, 1H); 10.67 (br, 1H).
