5.5 g (18 mmol) of 2-acetyloxy-5-octanoylbenzoic acid are dissolved in 55 ml of dichloromethane with one drop of pyridine. 1.6 ml (21.5 mmol) of thionyl chloride are added dropwise and the mixture is stirred at 35° C. for 18 hours and then concentrated to dryness. 5.6 g of 2-acetoxy-5-octanoylbenzoyl chloride are obtained in the form of a red oil in a yield of 96%.
