A solution of sodium hydroxide 10N (0.2 mL; 2 mmol) was added to a mixture of methyl 2-(4-(4-chloro-2-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2-phenylpyrimidin-5-yl)pentanoate (0.063 g; 0.148 mmol) in methanol (2 mL). The mixture was heated at 60° C. in a sealed tube for 18 h and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in water and the pH of the solution was adjusted between 2 and 3 by addition of a solution of hydrochloric acid 6N until a precipitate formed. The precipitate was collected by filtration and dried under reduced pressure over phosphorus pentoxide to afford 0.048 g (77%) of the title compound as a white solid.
