Procedure

This compound was prepared according to general method D from methyl 2-(4-methyl-2-(4-methylphenylsulfonamido)-6-p-tolylpyrimidin-5-yl)pentanoate (0.032 g; 0.068 mmol), sodium hydroxide 10N (0.10 mL; 1.00 mmol) in methanol (1 mL) at 60° C. for 18 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, the residue was dissolved in water and extracted with diethyl ether. The pH of the aqueous layer was adjusted between 2 and 3 by addition of a solution of hydrochloric acid 6N until a precipitate was formed. The suspension was extracted twice with ethyl acetate and the combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 0.029 g (93%) of the title compound.
