Procedure
A mixture of methyl 2-(4-chloro-2-(piperidin-1-yl)-6-p-tolylpyrimidin-5-yl)pentanoate in acetic acid and water (4/1 v/v; 30 mL/mmol) is stirred at 150° C. until completion. The reaction mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure, dissolved in dichloromethane and purified by flash chromatography on silica gel using a linear gradient of ethyl acetate in heptane.
