Reaction Steps

To a solution of 2-(2-bromoacetyl)-3-(methoxycarbonyl)pyridinium bromide (1.17 g, 3.45 mmol) in 10 ml of DMF 4-fluorobenzothioamide (0.7 g, 4.51 mmol) were added and stirred at room temperature over night. For work up the reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness and the obtained crude oil purified by chromatography on silica gel (eluent: CH2CL2+0.2% methanol) to give 865 mg of the thiazole as yellow oil.
