Procedure
A mixture of 2-(di(methylthio)methylene)malononitrile 1-7 (300 mg, 1.76 mmol) and 4-tert-butylaniline (263 mg, 1.76 mmol) in EtOH (5 mL) was refluxed for 3 days. After the reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, the resulting solid was filtered, washed with minimal EtOH, and dried to give compound 5 (255 mg, 53.5% yield, 98.9% purity) as a white powder.
