Into a 100-mL round-bottom flask, was placed methyl 3-(4-(methylsulfonyl)piperazin-1-yl)-2-phenylquinoxaline-6-carboxylate (170 mg, 0.40 mmol, 1.00 equiv), methanol (15 mL) in dichloromethane (5 mL). This was followed by the addition of a solution of sodium hydroxide (190 mg, 4.75 mmol, 11.90 equiv) in water (10 mL). The resulting solution was stirred for 3 h at room temperature. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum and diluted by 10 ml of H2O. The pH value of the aqueous solution was adjusted to 3 with hydrochloric acid. The resulting solids were collected by filtration. This resulted in 20 mg (12%) of 3-(4-(methylsulfonyl)piperazin-1-yl)-2-phenylquinoxaline-6-carboxylic acid as a brown solid.
