A mixture of 4-amino-2-methoxy-5-nitro-benzoic acid (22.2 g, 94.2 mmol) and 10 mL conc. sulphuric acid in 250 mL ethanol was refluxed for 2 h. Then the mixture was concentrate i. vac., the residue mixed with water at 0° C. and conc. ammonia. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with water and dried.
