A mixture of 4-t-butylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (0.59 g, 2.5 mmol) and crude 3-methyl-1-(quinolin-5-yl)-1H-pyrazol-5-amine (0.47 g, 2.1 mmol) in pyridine (0.6 mL) was heated at 80° C. for 15 h with stirring. After cooling to room temperature, dichloromethane was added to the reaction mixture and washed with 1 M aqueous sodium hydrogen sulfate (1 mL). The aqueous layer was further extracted with dichloromethane (2×5 mL), and the combined organic layers were dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The crude residue was purified by flash chromatography (SiO2, 1-10% methanol containing 10% ammonium hydroxide in dichloromethane) to give the title compound as a white solid (0.18 g, 0.12 mmol, 6%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.87 (dd, J=1.2, 4.0 Hz, 1H), 8.11 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 7.58-7.53 (m, 4H), 7.42 (s, 1H), 7.40 (s, 1H), 7.29-7.23 (m, 1H), 6.94 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 6.28 (s, 1H), 2.34 (s, 3H), 1.36 (s, 9H); MS: (ES) m/z calculated for C23H25N4O2S [M+H]+ 421.2. found 421.3.
