Procedure
To a mixture of 4-fluoro-4-(5-hydroxymethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (1.34 g, 4.24 mmol) and pyridine (426 mg, 1.3 eq.) in CH2Cl2 (30 mL) at 0° C. was added MsCl (631 mg, 1.3 eq.). The mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution and dried over Na2SO4. Removal of the solvent afforded the desired product, which was used directly in the following reaction without further purification.
