To a solution of 5-bromo-2-chlorobenzenemethanamine (i.e. the product of Step A) (600 mg, 2.72 mmol) in toluene (10 mL) at 0° C. was added acetic anhydride (0.55 mL, 5.45 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 100° C. for 3 h. The reaction mixture was then extracted with ethyl acetate (3×), and the organic layers were combined, washed with water and brine and dried (Na2SO4). The solvent was evaporated to provide the title product (600 mg).
