A mixture of acetic anhydride (0.82 mL, 9.7 mmol) and formic acid (0.4 mL, 9.7 mmol) was heated to 50° C. for 30 minutes and then cooled to 0° C. 2-Chloro-5-(1H-pyrazol-3-yl)benzenemethanamine (i.e. the product of Step C) (1.0 g, 4.8 mmol) was added, and the reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 4 h. The reaction mixture was then diluted with dichloromethane, washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and brine, then dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated. The crude residue was purified by preparative thin layer chromatography (TLC) (2% methanol in chloroform as eluant) to provide the title product as a solid (0.5 g).
