(3R*,4R*)-1-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-(4-fluorophenyl)piperidine-4-carboxylic acid (2.00 g, 6.19 mmol, prepared according to the procedure disclosed in WO 02/068387) in MeOH (20 ml) was treated dropwise with thionyl chloride (0.497 ml, 6.80 mmol) at rt. The mixture was stirred at rt for 12 h and then concentrated to afford the title compound. HPLC/MS: 238.0 (M+1); Rt=0.29 min.
