A mixture of 1,3-dibenzyl-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (470 mg, 1.18 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (220 mg, 1.23 mmol) was refluxed for 3 h. After the mixture was cooled to r.t., solvent was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was chromatographed (0-30% EtOAc/hexanes+2% AcOH) to give 451 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 479.06, 480.88 (M+1, 79/81Br)
