A mixture of 1-benzyl-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-pyridin-3-yl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (65 mg, 0.17 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (31 mg, 0.18 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (0.8 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (10-80% EtOAc/hexanes+1% AcOH) to give 40 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 466.17, 468.12 (M+1, 79/81Br).
