A mixture of (R)-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1-(1-phenyl-ethyl)-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (90 mg, 0.225 mmol) and N-bromosuccinimide (44 mg, 0.248 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (1 mL) was refluxed for 3 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (5-20% EtOAc/hexanes+1% AcOH) to give 73 mg of the title compound as a yellow solid. MS: (−) m/z 477.19, 479.15 (M−1, 79/81Br).
