Procedure
To a solution of 4-chloro-2-(1-oxo-3,4,6,7,8,9-hexahydropyrazino[1,2-a]indol-2(1H)-yl)nicotinaldehyde 103b (1.0 g, 3.0 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) was added sodium borohydride (380 mg, 9.0 mmol) at 10° C. and the mixture was stirred for another 30 minutes. Then the reaction mixture was quenched with water (1 mL) and concentrated. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (50 mL) and washed with water (10 mL). The organic phase was dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered, and evaporated under reduced pressure to afford 113g as a yellow solid (900 mg, 90%). MS: [M+H]+ 332.
