Procedure

14.4 g (0.1 mol) of 3-methoxy-3-methyl-2,4-dioxa-bicyclo[3,2,0]heptane (stereoisomer mixture) and 16.2 g (0.149 mol) of trimethylchlorosilane in 50 ml of methylene chloride are heated under reflux for 15 hours. Stripping off the solvent and fractional distillation of the residue gives 13.2 g (89%) of trans-1-chloro-2-acetoxy-cyclobutane. Boiling point10 66°, nD20 1.4472.
