Reaction Steps
73.4 g (0.51 mol) of 3-methoxy-3-methyl-2,4-dioxa-bicyclo[3,2,0]heptane (stereoisomer mixture) and 102.0 g (0.51 mol) of trimethyliodosilane in 300 ml of methylene chloride are heated to the reflux for 15 hours. Working up by distillation gives 93.6 g (82%) of trans-1-iodo-2-acetoxy-cyclobutane. Boiling point12 94°-95°, nD20 1.5203.
