133 g (1 mol) of benzylisocyanate is added dropwise to 159 g (1 mol) of 2-(2-isopropyl-1,3-oxazolidin-3-yl)-ethanol with vigorous stirring and the temperature is maintained at from 20° to 25° C with cooling. An almost colorless product with a viscosity of 460 cP (25° C) is obtained. It shows no NCO bands in the IR spectrum, but does show the expected urethane bands (1700 cm-1, 1540 cm-1).
