To 10 ml of methanol, 2.7 g of 2-amino-5-ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazoline and 1.3 g of 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl were added, followed by heating under reflux for 20 hours. After the reaction mixture was cooled, crystals so precipitated were collected by filtration. The resulting crystals were washed successively with methanol and diethyl ether and then dried, whereby 2.12 g of the title compound was obtained.
