To 10 ml of acetone, 2.7 g of 2-amino-5-ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole and 1.3 g of 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl were added, followed by heating under reflux for 2 hours. After the reaction mixture was cooled, the crystals so precipitated were collected by filtration, washed successively with acetone and diethyl ether and then dried, whereby 2.14 g of the title compound was obtained.
