To a suspension of 4.0 g of 5-ethyl-2-imino-3-(2'-cyanobiphenyl-4-yl)methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazoline.hydrobromide in 60 ml of chloroform, 10 ml of 2N sodium hydroxide was added, followed by stirring at room temperature for one hour. After separation, the organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting oil was crystallized from n-hexane, whereby 2.99 g of the title compound was obtained.
