Procedure
2-[5-[4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenoxy]butyl]-1H-isoindole-1,3-(2H)-dione (Example 26) is cleaved by hydrazine in refluxing ethanol by the procedure of Example 2. The crude hydrochloride salt is dissolved in 20 parts of water, made basic with 10N NaOH, and the mixture then extracted with 30 parts of dichloromethane. After drying with Na2SO4, the dichloromethane is removed in vacuo to give the desired compound as a clear oil, with the correct molecular weight as determined by mass spectrometry.
