Procedure

To pentafluoropyridine (1.0 g, 5.9 mimol) in petroleum ether (60 mL) at 0° C. was added sodium methoxide (0.32 mg, 5.9 mmol). After stirring for 12 hours at ambient temperature, the reaction was washed with water, dried (MgSO4), and the solvent was removed in vacuo to give 4-methoxy-2,3,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine; NMR (CDCl3) 4.3 ppm.
