N-[2-(1-t-Butoxycarbonylpiperidin-4-yl)phenyl]methanesulfonamide (488 mg) was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid-dichloromethane (10%, 50 mL) and stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a colourless gum (501 mg), δH (CDCl3) 1.97 (4H, br m), 3.03 (3H, s), 3.16 (2H, m), 3.48 (1H, m), 3.68 (2H, m), 7.25-7.43 (4H, m), 8.01 (1H, br s).
